Cozy B&B in a Quaint Town

"Josephine and her team took great care of my friends and I when we booked out all four rooms in this cosy B&B for a new year getaway. The breakfast menu is really special and prepared with love and care - make sure to try all the delicious offerings at least once! This property was really fun because we had the place to ourselves and were able to take over the meals area and shared lounge/piano. Extremely convenient as it is close to Mystic train station, and walking distance to the main strip of shops."

History

The minute you arrive at the Mermaid Inn of Mystic, you can park your car and walk away from it for the remainder of your stay. The location is so closely located to the heart of downtown Mystic that it's just a short walk to many things to do.

When you head out for a stroll of the town, it's just a quick six minute walk to Mystic Seaport, seven minutes to the Amtrak trai
n station and less than two miles to the Mystic Aquarium.

Visitors to the inn usually travel in from New York City on the train and love the peaceful charm of the Mermaid Inn and the surrounding garden. Guests say that the lovely porch and grounds are the perfect spot sit and relax.

The owner - Josephine Guarnaccia - originally bought the property 23 years ago. She had known that she wanted to own a bed and breakfast for many years. As a resident of the area, she drove by one day and saw that the property was for sale. She decided on the spot to buy it and make her goal of ownership a reality.

Turning the historic mansion from a single-family home into what it is today was no small feat. It took two years just to get the transient resident permit from the city that would allow her to operate the home as a bed and breakfast. Then it took an additional three years for a total of five to renovate the home - while maintaining the historic original footprint - so that each guest room would have its own private bathroom.

This charming inn is named to remind guests of the maritime community of Mystic.

Guests are welcome - and encouraged - to tickle the ivory of the inn's baby grand piano if the mood strikes them.

Each of the colorful guest rooms has been decorated with original artwork created by local artist Jennifer Wolcin.

Breakfast at the inn gives you the full opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the property and the gardens. Enjoy dining on the inn's wraparound porch or covered gazebo during the summer months. The meal is a spectacular event with three courses and includes fresh baked goods, coffee, and tea. In the afternoon, guests can stop in and grab fresh baked cookies compliments of Josephine.

Your Own Country Hideaway

"First time in Mystic, a special place made even more special with a stay at the beautiful and quaint Mermaid Inn. Josephine made our stay so memorable—she's a fabulous cook and a warm and kind host. Close to town but far enough to feel like you're in your own country hideaway. I would come back here in a heartbeat."
